Welcome to the EYFS!
The Early Years Foundation Stage consists of two full time Nursery classes and two Reception classes. We have over 110 children who work in our EYFS phase. The classes work closely together to aid transition and the benefit the children’s development in all seven areas of learning.
In the EYFS we base our learning on and around the seven areas of learning that the EYFS framework sets out. These are Personal, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Development, Communication and Language, Literacy, Mathematics, Expressive Arts and Design and Understanding the World. We offer a full time Nursery place for children as soon as they turn three and the nursery learning timetable mirrors the learning timetable that takes place in Reception, again to help their transition and learning.
We are great lovers of the outdoors in the EYFS. The children have daily access to our brilliant outdoor learning environment to support their learning. They have construction resources, den making equipment, a mud kitchen, large mark making opportunities and much more out there. We are great believers in outdoor learning at Rivers Primary Academy. There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing.
The children in the EYFS share the same themes and topics and base their half termly learning around these. This year our topics are:
Autumn 1: Animals
Autumn 2: Festivals and Celebrations
Spring 1: People and Communities
Spring 2: Growth and Change
Summer 1: Under the Sea
Summer 2: Traditional Tales
